Man robbed of cash, gold ring by auto gang

Members of an auto-rickshaw gang allegedly looted Rs 8,200 and a gold ring from a local resident near Rikhi Cinema Chowk around 8 pm on Sunday.

The victim noted down the registration number of the auto. The police traced the auto after some time. The suspects have been identified as Roop Singh of Jagraon, Paramjit Singh of Rauli village, Amandeep Singh of Moga, Kulwinder Singh of Janer village in Moga district and Sanjiv Kumar of Partap Singh Wala in Ludhiana.

The victim, Karan Kumar of Chander Lok Colony stated that he boarded an auto from Rikhi Cinema Chowk on Sunday evening. “There were five persons already boarding the auto. When it reached near Book Market, the driver stopped the auto and the youths present in the auto snatched my purse and a gold ring I was wearing. There were Rs 8,200, my ATM card and important documents in my purse,” said Karan Kumar.

The investigating officer, ASI Gurmit Singh, said the police acted swiftly and traced all accused within a few hours. “A case has been registered against the accused under Section 379 B, 341 and 506 of the IPC. The police have also recovered stolen money from the accused,” said the ASI.

Shop burgled

Thieves stole Rs 30,000 and electronics goods in the Janakpuri area on the night of September 22. The owner of Gupta Electronics, Gaurav Gupta, said he closed his shop on Saturday night around 9 pm. “When I came to the shop next morning, I found the locks of the shutter broken and Rs 30,000 kept in the locker, a camera and mobile phones missing,” said Gupta.
