Ludhiana, January 14
Padam Shri, Dr Amrit Tewari, mother of senior Congress leader and former Union minister Manish Tewari, passed away in Chandigarh last night. She was 80 and not keeping well. Her cremation will take place tomorrow (Monday, January 15) at Sector 25 crematorium in Chandigarh.
The PPCC general secretary, Pawan Dewan, said she was a great visionary. Dr Tewari is survived by her son Manish Tewari and daughter, Puneet. She was married to Prof Vishwanath Tewari, a Rajya Sabha MP, who was assassinated by militants in 1984. Dr Tewari was an ex-Dean of the PGI and had also served as the chairperson of the Indian Dental Council. She was also awarded Padam Shri for her outstanding service in the field of medicine. She also served as a councillor in the Chandigarh MC. — TNS
