MC House okays Rs13.34-cr Budget

Contractors, wilfully delaying execution of development projects and maintenance of various civic amenities in the jurisdiction of the Ahmedgarh Municipal Council will have to face music now onwards. The MC authorities have been advised to issue notices to contractors as per the provisions of the Municipal Act.

Decision to get all pending works done was taken during the annual budget meeting of the council held under the supervision of associate member of the council and legislator Surjit Singh Dhiman. The meeting was chaired by Municipal Council president Suraaj Mohammad.

Meanwhile, the annual budget envisaging total income worth Rs 13,34,31,000 was approved by the House unanimously and an amount of Rs 5,04,41,000 was earmarked for various development projects to be executed during the ensuing financial year.

Perusal of records revealed that the council had allocated Rs 326.79 lakh for non-committed expenses to be incurred during the current year in comparison to last year’s total expense in category of Rs 145.52 lakh. However, the estimate in the category was Rs 229.27 lakh. Setting aside Rs 105 lakh for miscellaneous items, the authorities had proposed Rs 55 lakh for the repair of existing roads and Rs 40 lakh for the construction of new roads. Similarly, Rs 30 lakh have been earmarked for the construction of new drains and Rs 15 lakh for the repair of old drains. CC flooring has been allocated Rs 35 lakh.

An amount of Rs 227.62 lakh (including liability of Rs 21.42 lakh as election charges) has been earmarked for the total committed expenses to be made during the ensuing year. This includes Rs 73 lakh for street light bills, Rs 43 lakh for tube-well bills and Rs 44.65 lakh on solid waste management.

Assuring that adequate funds for more development projects would be brought from the state government, Dhiman said major problem of sewage disposal would be solved after the completion of the sewage treatment plant, process for which had already been started.

Responding to question on slow pace of development works, Suraaj Mohammad said wilful defaulters among contractors had been identified and the authorities had been advised to take stern action against them.
