Mission polio-free dist on admn’s mind

LUDHIANA: To make children aged 0-5 years free from polio disease, a pulse polio drive would be held in the district from June 16 to 20.

To make children aged 0-5 years free from polio disease, a pulse polio drive would be held in the district from June 16 to 20.

The drive would be held in Ludhiana city, Sahnewal and urban areas of Koom Kalan block, besides children from migratory families living in rural areas would also be covered.

Similarly, migrants’ children would be covered in Khanna, Jagraon, Samrala, Raikot, CHC Payal, Manupur, Machhiwara, Malaud, Sudhar, Pakhowal, Hathur and Sidhwan Bet blocks from June 16 to 18.

This was stated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sanyam Aggarwal, while chairing a meeting regarding the pulse polio drive at Bachat Bhawan, here today. The meeting was attended by several senior officials of the health and other departments.

The ADC (D) was briefed about the population of children from migrant families aged 0-5 years in these areas, which was 3,79,030, which can also increase. He informed that to cover these children, a total of 1,651 teams have been formed, which include 93 mobile, 53 transit, and 1,505 teams to cover houses.

To check the spread of dengue, chikungunya and water-borne diseases, Aggarwal urged all government departments to work in tandem, so that these diseases could be stopped from spreading in the district. The ADC (D) also directed the health as well as Municipal Corporation officials to carry out surveys to check dengue larvae in residential as well as commercial areas and if any violation was found, challans would be issued.

While chairing another meeting of the District Health Society, Sanyam Aggarwal reviewed the progress of the activities of the Health Department for the month of March. He also directed all SMOs and CDPOs to work jointly, so that all health-related government schemes and programmes of Punjab Government could be implemented in the district effectively.
