“Students were joining back school after a month-long break and we wanted them to feel easy during the first week. In addition to relax them, moral education will also be imparted to them through these animated movies. Children love cartoons and through these screenings, they will be familiarised with different languages in their playway years using multimedia techniques. It will also help in attracting kids to come to schools,” said Swarnjit Kaur, District Education Officer (DEO).

Sukhdhir Singh Sekhon, principal of Government Primary School, Sukhdev Nagar, said the idea of showing a cartoon movie to the kids after the vacation was a welcome idea and they had loved it. “Kids generally take time to go back to books after vacation, and since today was the first day of the school after the break, cartoon movie was shown to them so that they absorb into their new routine with a smile on their faces,” he said.

A student from a primary school said she did not feel like coming back to school after the vacations but really enjoyed a lot and was happy not to miss the first day of school. “I enjoyed the cartoon movie and am looking forward for tomorrow as they will show the next part of the movie,” she said. All government schools were re-opened today, while many private schools will commence in the coming days. Keeping in view the scorching heat, the timings were changed by the Education Department from today. Classes started at 7:30 am and got over at 1: 30 pm.
