The Chinese glue traps, available in the market for trapping mouse, are proving fatal for birds too.
The traps are available in the market on which “glue” is pasted. These traps are kept at homes/work places and when a mouse tries to cross over, it gets stuck with it. It gets trapped and cannot move and people can throw these in the open or on roads.
In one such incident, a resident found a bird stuck to the trap at a park in Model Town Extension area. The person, a bird lover, in an attempt to save the bird, brought it to Pakshi Sewa Samiti founder Vipan Bhatia. Bhatia had to work hard to remove the glue from the bird’s feathers to save it. During the rescue operation, the bird’s wings got damaged and now, it was being treated. The District Forest Officer has been told about the incident by the samiti members.
Though on the glue trap, it has been written that it is “environmental friendly”, Bhatia claimed these were not. In fact, this was “cruelty” against birds/ squirrels as whosoever gets stuck in the glue will be badly trapped and eventually die while struggling to get freed.
To save birds from this, Pakshi Sewa Samiti has written to Maneka Gandhi to save birds. It has requested Gandhi to intervene and help in banning this dangerous trap, meant for the mouse. Bhatia and other senior members of samiti have also urged residents not to use such mouse traps, which are dangerous.
