Ludhiana, March 27
The Medical Superintendent, ESIC Model Hospital, has been transferred and demoted.
The MS, Dr Balraj Bhandar, has been transferred to Noida as Deputy Medical Superintendent while Dr Madhu Gupta, Deputy Medical Superintendent, ESIC Ludhiana, has been promoted as MS. A copy of the orders is with The Tribune.
It has been learnt that action has been taken after irregularities were found in the working of the hospital. On March 8, MLA Simarjit Singh Bains visited the hospital and after that wrote to the Employees State Insurance Corporation, Headquarters. Bains had also complained to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker and officials of the Health Department.
In his complaint, Bains had stated that if any staff member raised his or her voice against corrupt practices of the MS, he or she was transferred. He had pointed out unnecessary civil work in the hospital, illegitimate extension of tenders, sub-letting of quarters in ESIC Colony, payment of salary to those who are not marking their attendance, false claims against landline telephone bills, undue favours to laundry vendor, etc.
