Ludhiana, December 26
Naveen Singla, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has taken charge as the city’s new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). He has replaced Nilamberi Jagdale, who has proceeded on leave.
The Commissioner of Police, Pramod Ban, confirmed the development here today. Before moving to the city, Singla was serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar.
DCP Singla is not new to the city and its problems. He earned accolades for successfully tackling the growing crime rate in Jodhewal Basti and the surrounding areas during his stint as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (South), Ludhiana.
He has a reputation of not succumbing to political pressure. While serving as the station house officer (SHO), Dehlon police station, nearly five years ago, Singla had locked horns with a politician. He also remained in news for his frequent transfers.
He was transferred from the Dehlon police station to Division No. 8. After a few months, he was moved to Amritsar, from where he was transferred to Pathankot.
He returned to the city as the ACP (Traffic). Then, he was made the ACP (South), before moving to the Chief Minister’s security.
Meanwhile, the department has posted Mukhwinder Singh as the new Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation).
