The Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust celebrated the 112th birth anniversary of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar here on Wednesday. The event was organised at his birth place at Naughara Mohalla, Ludhiana.
President of the trust Ashok Thapar said: “It is a national-level event in which students of various schools participated in partiotic programmes.” The trust also organised a blood donation camp and medical camp. Dr Isha Honda and Dr Mohit Vaid examined the patients and offered free medicines to them.
Meanwhile, the trust members demanded from the administration to make a direct way from Chaura Bazar to the martyr’s birthplace at Naughara Mohalla.
However, the trust members said none of the MLAs, MP, administration or police officials attended the event to mark the birth anniversary. A number of political leaders, including some councillors, members of various organisation and residents paid tributes to the martyr.
In another function organised at Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Thapar Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Bharat Nagar, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Iqbal Singh Sandhu, called upon the youth to come forward and eradicate social evils such as corruption, drug abuse, female foeticide and illiteracy from society. He said this would be the real tribute to the martyrs of the country and fulfil their dreams.
He addressed students during the state-level function here today.
Earlier, Sandhu, along with other dignitaries, paid a floral tribute to the statue of Shaheed Sukhdev located on the school campus. He said: “These functions are organised to promote national integration and instill patriotism in people, especially our youth. Shaheed Sukhdev laid down his life for the freedom of our country.” He informed students that Sukhdev was born in Mohalla Naughara located in the city.
On this occasion, school students and teachers presented items related to national integration and communal harmony. District Science Supervisor Balwinder Kaur and school principal Kamaljit Kaur also addressed the function.
