Ludhiana, October 29
Many residents have installed big structures for displaying advertisements on rooftops at city markets in violation of norms. The advertisement policy doesn’t allow rooftop hoardings but the Municipal Corporation has failed to get these structures removed from most buildings in markets and near bus stand.
Earlier, these structures were allowed at only selected city markets.
According to The Punjab Municipal Outdoor Advertisement Policy 2018, rooftop hoardings are not allowed. The policy was notified in March but the civic body authorities are yet to ensure its implementation in the right way.
These structures can be seen on various buildings at Model Town Market, Sarabha Nagar Market, Feroze Gandhi Market, BRS Nagar Market, Chandigarh Road and other areas. The structures on many buildings still carry advertisements.
Amarjit Singh Tikka, general secretary, PPCC, said the rooftop structures for putting up hoardings should be removed from all private as well as government buildings.
The MC is supposed to ensure redress of complaints made against illegal advertisements within three days. But many illegal advertisements have been on display for the past several weeks in the absence of any check.
Superintendent of MC Charanjeet Singh could not be contacted for his comment.
