Ludhiana, May 28
Mullanpur Dakha is a major town on the Moga-Ludhiana highway and almost all buses plying on this route stop here to pick and drop passengers, yet there is no bus stand in the town.
Local residents demand that the government should build a bus stand in Mullanpur to accommodate passengers has not been met so far.
Though the past governments of different political parties had promised to construct the bus stand building in Mullanpur, yet they failed to fulfil the long-pending demand of the people.
Mullanpur is located close to Ludhiana, which is the industrial hub of Punjab. Hundreds of people travel between Mullanpur and Ludhiana every day for their personal work, besides thousands of other passengers.
The commuters face lot of problems while boarding buses because there is no proper place to wait. The situation turns worse during summers and rainy season when passengers have to wait for buses in the open. Children and the elderly suffer most as they is no shelter under which they can sit or stand.
“Mullanpur is a major town with a large population. There is an urgent requirement of bus stand here. The authorities should pay attention to the long-pending demand of local residents,” lamented Ramandeep, a daily commuter.
Moreover, in absence of proper bus stand, passengers have to board buses from roadside. All buses pick and drop passengers on road, which often obstructs the flow of vehicles and creates traffic bottlenecks.
The Mullanpur Municipal Council president, Telu Ram Bansal, blamed the previous SAD-BJP government for not constructing bus stand in the town.
“Our government is committed to fulfil the long-pending demand of local residents. So far, no plan has been finalised as many technical problems have to be solved before construction of the bus stand building begins, but we will be able to provide the facility in near future,” he added.
