In a keenly contested final, hosts Nankana Sahib Public School (NSPS), Gill Park, defended a modest score of nine runs to humble BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar branch, to emerge victorious in the Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Complex Cricket Tournament (U-17), held here today.
The NSPS won the toss and opted to bat first. In the stipulated 10 overs, they made 90 runs after losing six wickets in which Ketan Bhangu chipped in with 27 runs. Other notable contributors were Karanveer (21), Amitoz (17) and Gurman (16).
For BCM School, Manjot secured three wickets after giving 15 runs while Adityaveer grabbed one wicket after conceding 32 runs. Chasing the target, BCM School managed to muster 78 runs for the loss of four wickets as they fell short of balls. Fine batting by Vansh Gulati (26), Raghav (25) and Manjot (23) went in vain, as BCM lost the match by 12 runs.
For the NSPS, Krishik captured three wickets for 17 runs whereas Amitoz scalped one victim for 25 runs.
In the hard-line cup match, Sacred Heart Convent School beat St Thomas Senior Secondary School by eight wickets to secure third position. Batting first, after winning the toss, St Thomas School scored 73 runs after losing four wickets. Sacred Heart made the required runs with eight wickets in hand in just seven overs. The architects of their victory were Chitanya and Abhya, who played innings of 44 and 27 runs, respectively. Principal of the host school, Harmeet Kaur Waraich distributed the prizes.
