Official inspects solid waste handling system

The chairperson of a regional monitoring committee under the National Green Tribunal checked the MC’s solid waste management system on Monday. She inspected various dumping sites and MC’s waste disposal plant near Kakka village.
Earlier in the morning, the monitoring committee chairperson conducted a meeting with MC officials and Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu at the MC Zone D office. The Mayor said the meeting was held to discuss the disposal of garbage, plastic waste and construction waste.
An official said the civic body has been instructed to speed up work to improve the solid waste management system and also to ensure segregation of waste. The team also checked a static waste compactor system near Dugri Road Canal Bridge. Sources said they had asked the officials to ensure implementation of ban on the usage of plastic carry bags.
