Our vote is useless, say Katani Kalan residents

A disgruntled group of villagers of Katani Kalan have refused to vote. The reason being cited by them is two village ponds, (one of which is situated in the middle of the village) which have reduced their life to a virtual hell. While pond water continues to enter the nearby homes, the panchayat has acted as a mute spectator throughout these years.
The only village ponds, located in the very heart of the village have out-lived its capacity to absorb wastewater anymore. Consequently, water coming out of the houses in routine, remain jammed in the small nullas, which get over brimmed in no time, leading the streets to turn into pools of filthy garbage water.
“The village seems to be heading towards its ultimate doom as the panchayats have nearly shunned this village long ago. The problem has been plaguing the village for years together. What is most disturbing for the villagers is that the over-brimming pond has no outlet anywhere,” expressed an annoyed villager.
“When our repeated pleas, requests and entreaties have remained unheeded, why should we vote for anyone. They are not better than the earlier ones. When the panchayats are insensitive to such an extent, they have no right to demand votes and we are not compelled to vote either,” rued a villager.
“Despite receiving grants in lakhs, our problem still remains unsolved. It is literally on the verge of destruction, with filth entering the houses of the villagers. The candidates can not befool us. They are all chips of the same block. So, it is better to sit back at home,” expressed still another.
