PAU library wins award

Ludhiana: The Mohinder Singh Randhawa Library, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been conferred with the ICAR award for the ‘J-Gate@CeRA Best User Profile Registrations 2019’ in the north zone, thus, creating maximum number of user profiles in Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA). Yogita Sharma, deputy librarian, nodal officer, CeRA, and Suniti Bala, assistant librarian, received the award during the J-gate@CeRA regional programme 2019, held for the libraries of north zone agricultural universities and institutes of ICAR, at the National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi, on October 23. Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, congratulated university librarian Param Pal Sahota, library faculty and staff for this achievement.

Training camp on fruit science and cultivation

A training camp on “Successful cultivation of fruits” was organised by Punjab Agricultural University, in collaboration with its Department of Fruit Science and Farm Advisory Service Centre, Jalandhar, at Donewal village, Jalandhar. The camp was dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Around 700 fruit plants were distributed among farmers on the occasion. Harminder Singh, head, Department of Fruit Science, highlighted the importance of fruit plants and impressed upon the farmers not to burn paddy straw.

Farmers attend awareness camp on drip irrigation

A one-day awareness camp-cum-field day on “Drip irrigation” was organised at Regional Research Station, Bathinda, of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), under the Indo-Israel project ‘Center of excellence on utilisation of brackish water for fruits and vegetables production in south-western Punjab.’ More than 150 farmers from various villages of Bathinda district participated in the camp. Navtej Singh Bains, director of research, PAU, advised the farmers to save water and use micro irrigation systems. He also explained how drip irrigation and fertigation improved the quality of water and the health of soil, which ultimately increased the production and the productivity of crops. Bains appealed to the farmers to remain in touch with the university’s scientists for reaping benefits of new technologies.
