Washrooms in the hostels of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have been in poor condition. The students living in the hostels of the university rue that they have been facing a lot of difficulties due to utterly bad condition of the washrooms in the hostels. The students said the washrooms of hostels need immediate repair.
During a visit to hostel number 1 for boys in the university, the doors of the washrooms were found to be in poor condition. There were no lights in some of the washrooms of the hostel while some toilets lacked water tanks. Besides, it was also observed that washrooms were not cleaned properly.
As per the information, more than 300 students reside in hostel number 1 of the university. The students living in the hostel said they had to face many difficulties due to the poor condition of washrooms. According to students, the washrooms have not been repaired for a long period of time.
“The doors of many washrooms are broken, while there are no lights in some other washrooms due to which it becomes difficult for us to use them when it is dark. Moreover, the toilets are not cleaned on regular basis as a result of which they keep stinking,” rued a university student living in hostel number 1 for boys.
Besides, the hostel also lacks cleanliness. The air coolers were found stocked in different corners of the hostel and a lot of dirty water was found assembled in those air coolers. Some students claimed that stagnant water in air coolers had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects.
Similar is the condition of other hostels of the university. Apart from washrooms, the wooden almirahs of several hostel rooms are also broken. The electricity switches were also found dysfunctional in some of the rooms. The hostlers said they have raised the issue with university authorities many times but to no avail.
Director of PAU Students Welfare Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal said she was not aware of the problem. “Whenever any student comes up with a complaint regarding any problem, we solve it on priority basis. No student has ever raised this issue with me. However, I would look into the matter and get the needful done at the earliest,” she added.
