Ludhiana: Students of the PCTE brought laurels to the institute by winning first prize in a fashion show at annual fest of the IIT Roorkee – Thomso 2017. The three-day fest started on October 27. The PCTE students with their remarkable performance in the fashion on the theme – ‘Dead Flora’ won I position. The II position was won by Dehradun College followed by the IIT Roorkee who won the third prize. The show witnessed a huge participation where after prelim round five teams were through to the finals.
Apart from fashion show students also participated in various other events such as nukkad natak, bhangra, western solo and Indian solo. Kapil Prashar, Dean Academics , PCTE, who accompanied the students at the fest said: “We are pleased by the performance of students. Thomso 2017 has been recognised as one of the greatest pomp youth festivals of India witnessing a huge participation. The competition was really tough but our student’’s hard work and efforts paid them off. They practiced day & night which made their performances flawless. We expect the similar performance by the students in other competitions as well”.
International conference held at GGNIMT
The GGN Institute of Management & Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines, organised a one-day Multi Stream International Conference (IMSC-2017) on its campus on Sunday. The theme of the conference was “Research & Society”. Over 200 delegates from different universities, colleges and corporate houses from all over India and abroad participated in the conference. They presented their research papers on various streams such as commerce, management, education, Computer Applications, engineering and life sciences. Dr SS Johl, Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, was the chief guest for the day. Gursharn Singh Narula, president, GKEC, congratulated the organisers for hosting the event and said the culture of research should be developed in all the academic institutions to encourage growth and progress of the nation. Dr SP Singh, former VC, GNDU, Amritsar, welcomed the guests and presented the rationale of the conference. He said the IMSC 2017 intended to provide the platform for the accomplished and budding researchers in various streams to share, learn and interact with researchers, professionals, academicians and students of various educational and industrial organisations.
Eye-care lecture at GCG
The Science Society of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana organised a function. The principal of college, Mohinder Kaur Grewal, was given a floral welcome and she honoured the resource person of the function Dr. Simmi Aggarwal, a laser surgeon. She delivered a lecture on eye care. A debate competition was also held on the topic. Kritika and Harmeen won the first prize, whereas second position was won by Akriti and Krtika. In individual prizes, first prize was won by Harmeen and second prize was won by Ruchika. — TNS
