Principals of government schools held a meeting today at Malwa Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Model Gram, regarding the three-day state-level games for teachers to be held from January 11.

However, most of the principals were caught in a fix after they were asked to donate Rs 2,000 each as expenses for the games.

“Principals reached the venue and the meeting was chaired by the DEO Secondary. The agenda was the state-level games in which over 1000 government school teachers will participate. We were told that the state government will not bear expenses for the games and Ludhiana being the biggest district will collect funds. Principals of all government schools in Ludhiana district will donate Rs 2,000 each,” said a principal on condition of anonymity.

The cluster of principals has been asked to do the needful. However, the union has condemned the directions. “If the government cannot spend money, there is no need to hold games for teachers. Why penalise us? When the government will have money, they can hold the games,” rued another principal.

Despite repeated attempts the DEO Secondary could not be contacted for his comments.
