On the basis of monitoring of wheat fields in the sub-mountainous areas of Punjab by experts of Punjab Agricultural University, it has been observed that yellow rust has appeared in very small patches in a few fields in Punjab
The prevalent weather conditions are favourable for initiation and spread of yellow rust in sub-mountaineous areas of Punjab. Dr Narinder Singh, Head, Department of Plant Pathology has advised that the farmers of sub-mountainoeus areas should constantly monitor their wheat fields. In case yellow rust incidence is observed it should be immediately checked by applying the effective and recommended fungicides.
Karnal bunt (KB), a fungal disease affecting wheat crop is known to partially transform wheat grains into black mass of fungal spores.
