The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X results were declared on Tuesday. After eight long years, the students of Class X saw their result in percentage instead of merely Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) grading.
The Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) pattern that was introduced in 2010 was withdrawn in 2017. The board exams for Class X for the session 2017-18 were reinstated.
Pulkita Puri of BCM Arya Model School and Gautam Jain of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Kitchlu Nagar, have stood first in the district with 98.6% (493) marks each. Puneet Singh of MGM Public School, Pranav Gupta of BVM Kitchlu Nagar and Divya Gupta of Kundan Vidya Mandir School have stood second with 98.4% marks each. Deepti, Gagandeep Singh and Samridhi Manchanda of BCM Arya School have shared the third position with 98.2% marks.
“Do not study under pressure,” says Pulkita Puri, who was on cloud nine. Overwhelmed with the score, she said: “I always wanted to make my teachers and parents proud. The smile that they carry on their face is so satisfying to watch. I am grateful and owe my success to my mentors and family.”
Pulkita has scored a perfect 100 in science and social science, 99 marks in mathematics and 97 marks in English and Punjabi. She shares: “My brother is my biggest inspiration. He told me to study free mindedly. As it was our first encounter with boards, there were lots of apprehensions about it but I never let the stress take over my performance.”
Pulkita is neither an early riser nor did she study in daytime. She did all her studies in the late night when she could concentrate more. “Self-study, regular revision and consistency is the only key to success. I never studied for fixed hours,” she added.
Pulkita’s mother, Anu Puri is a science and mathematics teacher in the same school. Her father, Manish Puri is a businessman. He said: “This is a proud and memorable moment for me. Pulkita is a hard worker. She never studied for any fixed hours but she is very much specific to her work. She always enjoyed studying and that’s what matters the most.”
Another district topper, Gautam Jain said: “I totally support the percentage system. It shows the real picture of a student’s performance. This gives the deserving students their reward.”
While sharing his success recipe, he said: “I utilised most of the 24 hours of the day and never wasted a single minute. I had a fixed routine and followed it till the very end. I used to take up learning in the morning and revise the same in the noon and night. Refreshing yourself is equally important. One must not quit physical activities amid exams.”
Gautam, who has scored a perfect 100 in mathematics and social science, said he wanted to become an industrialist. He drew inspiration from his father and grandfather.
He considers music an excellent stress buster and used to play piano in the free time. His father Sanjay Jain is a businessman and mother Poonam Jain a homemaker.
