Students of Class X of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) who today appeared for their social science examination were taken aback after seeing the map of Punjab.
Students faced a difficult situation in attempting the map question as they found the shape of the Punjab map changed. During their classes, they were given the map of Punjab state prior to 1947 and it comprised East and West Punjab.
The map they got in the exam today was only of East Punjab. Students were unable to understand the shape of the map and many of them failed to attempt the question.
A student, while coming out of the exam centre, said the paper overall was good but the map part was what a majority of students failed to understand. “The shape of the Punjab in the map was changed and I failed to fill in. Not only I but also others failed to attempt this map question,” he said.
Rajinder Sharma, president of Association of PSEB Affiliated Schools, said the students of Class X should be given five grace marks by the authorities as most of them were unable to attempt the question due to the changed shape of the Punjab map, comprising only East Punjab.
