A quiz, ‘Battle of the Brains’, was organised by the postgraduate department of commerce and management of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar. The principal, Prof Jaswant Singh, welcomed the guest of honour, Prof Jagdev Singh, a former scientist of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and introduced him as a great inspiration as an alumnus of the college. After being screened through a written test at the preliminary level, four teams of three students each qualified for the final level, of which the team comprising Sumit, Gurpinder and Baldeep was declared the winner by a margin of 20 points. The quiz tested the areas of subjective knowledge, business awareness, identification of logos and famous personalities.
Annual alumni meet
The annual alumni meet of SCD Government College was organised on Sunday at Sahir Auditorium. The meet was attended by a large number of former students of the college. The association provides them a forum to stay connected with their batch mates and teachers. They were welcomed by the principal, Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu. After the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, the principal said the college was blessed to have a long list of illustrious alumni who had distinguished themselves at the national and international levels, thereby bringing glory to their alma mater. The principal also said this alumni meet was special as it marked the centenary celebrations of the college. On this occasion, a number of alumni were honoured. The present batch of students presented a cultural programme. A few students also shared their memories and experiences of the college.
International Students’ Fest
A week-long international students’ fest organised by PCTE ended on a high note on Sunday. The PCTE group of institutions has more than 240 international students from 42 countries. The past week witnessed the celebrations of the existence of different nationalities and diverse cultures under one roof. Amidst singing, traditional dancing and fashion shows, the festival of the foreign students started with a sports tournament where the students played soccer and other sports. Various stalls were set up where the students displayed items related to culture, flag and local commodities along with information about their countries of origin. This was followed by an international culinary fest where students showcased their diverse cuisines. Faith, a student and performer from Zambia, said: “The PCTE crowd is no longer just Indian. We can have a feel of studying in an international college.” TNS
