Ludhiana, July 16
A resident of Street No. 3 of Chander Nagar in ward no. 91, Ludhiana, complained that he was getting contaminated water supply.
Complainant Rakesh Karir, former Punjab Police inspector, claimed to have found worms in water from a tap connected to direct water supply line of the MC.
Karir said, “I had noticed a worm in water a week ago also, but I ignored then. But last night again, I found two worms in water. These look like earthworms. It seems water being supplied by the civic body is contaminated. I request the MC authorities to take required measures at the earliest.”
An activist, Keemti Rawal said, “The civic body authorities should take required steps and get water pipes inspected. The water is being supplied without chlorination in our area.”
Councillor from ward 91, Gurpinder Kaur, said no complaint about water contamination had been received.
MC’s Superintending Engineer Ravinder Garg said, “We will look into the matter and take the required steps if any person complained about the contaminated water supply.”
“It was observed in many other cases that worms entered water supply pipe if the water supply connection of the property concerned was found to be damaged,” he added.
