Residents demand railway overbridge on Pohir Road

Frequent traffic snarls on roads in the town are proving to be a great threat to the local business and surrounding localities. Residents of these localities have started preferring visiting other towns for shopping to escape being caught in traffic snarls at local markets.

Residents, including traders and shopkeepers, have once again urged the authorities to expedite the process for construction of railway-over-bridge on Pohir road, which is expected to ease vehicular traffic to great extent.

They have also urged the railway authorities to direct their employees to close the level crossings on Pohir road and Jagera road on time so that the inconvenience caused was minimised. Frequent and prolonged closure on both crossings has been causing inconvenience to commuters.

Yadwinder Singh Phallewal, a social activist, alleged that frequent traffic snarls and uncertainty about closing and opening of level crossing had affected all sections of society, including shoppers and business community. “Besides affecting routine life of residents and commuters, frequent traffic snarls result in heated arguments thus causing law and order problems for the administration,” said Phallewal.

Sahil Garg, an entrepreneur, alleged that business had taken a hit as prospective customers from nearby localities preferred distant markets to avoid traffic snarls and unscheduled closure of railway level crossing.

Former president Municipal Council Ravinder Puri said a delegation met the PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla for construction of railway over bridge on Pohir Road. Teji Kamalpur, political secretary of MLA Surjit Singh Dhiman, claimed that the legislator had already taken up the issue with the CM.
