Ludhiana: Taking a stern action against Basant Restaurant, located at Fountain Chowk, the city police registered a case against its owner, manager and unknown drivers of vehicles. The police booked owner of Basant Restaurant Bhupinder Singh, who is also a Congress leader. He and his brother Rajinder Singh are close to Congress MLAs in the city. He was also occasionally seen with Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, at political functions. An FIR was recommended by the Ludhiana DCP, Dhruman Nimbale, after he witnessed a huge traffic jam at Fountain Chowk. The DCP was on patrol when he saw a huge traffic jam outside Basant Restaurant. He immediately called officials of the Police Division No. 8 and ordered registration of an FIR. A case under Section 283 (obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the IPC was registered against the owner. The police said the restaurant owner was informed about the traffic congestion on earlier occasions too, but he did pay any heed and continued to obstruct the traffic. The DCP had ordered such FIRs earlier, too, whenever he noticed such traffic nuisance on roads. TNS
Man booked for kidnapping girl
Ludhiana: The city police booked a man on the charge of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl. The accused has been identified as Ranjit Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh. The complainant, Sandeep, a resident of SBS Nagar, stated to the police that on September 5 his daughter was kidnapped by the accused by luring her for marriage. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused. TNS
