Ludhiana, September 9
Dr Joginder Dyal, senior communist leader, executive member and Gulzar Singh Goria, general secretary, Punjab Khet Mazdoor Sabha, said pro-corporate economic policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government have plunged the country into economic crises.
Duo said depreciation of Rupee against dollar is a cause of concern as it has resulted in rise in price of imported raw material which has hit the industry hard.
“Today industry in Ludhiana is in deep crises due to rising import prices of wool, steel, rubber, lubricants, edible oils etc. It is a matter of concern,” they said.
Dr Joginder Dyal said, “Petrol costs from Rs 82 to Rs 85 and diesel is above Rs 72. The oil companies are allowed to fix daily prices of petroleum products on their own. Both the Central and state governments have levied taxes due to which fuel rates are not coming down.”
He said, “Petroleum products are backbone of development. If its fuel prices go up, it will result in inflation. Our agrarian state depends on diesel and rising fuel rates have further aggravated the matter for farmers.”
Besides, the leaders said even after 72 years of Independence, we have to face caste system, discrimination etc which is uncalled for.
“Golden Jubilee of the BKMU is going on at Bathinda. We will highlight demands, including employment guarantee, proper implementation of MNREGA, social security etc,” said Goria.
