All link roads connecting Jagraon with various villages are in deplorable condition. Most of these stretches in Jagraon Tehsil, particularly in the Sidhwan Bet area, have not been repaired for a long time. The bad condition of link roads continues to trouble commuters.
The stretches connecting villages, including Talwara, Sheik Kutab, Gorsian Makhan and Gorsian Khan Mohammad, with Sidhwan Bet present a perfect picture of government apathy towards improving the condition of link roads. There are countless pits on these roads. Besides surface of these link roads is uneven at several places, which makes commuting difficult for travellers.
Villagers said the link road connecting Sidhwan Bet with Gorsian Khan Mohammad had not been re-laid for the past many years. “We have been facing tough time due to bad condition of link roads,” they rued.
Villagers said they had taken up the issue with leaders of the ruling party several times but to no avail. “Every time we were promised that the road will be constructed soon, but these assurances never materialised. We have also met the Punjab Mandi Board authorities and pleaded to at least get this road repaired. All our requests seem to be falling on deaf ears and nothing concrete has been done to improve the condition of the link road,” lamented Mohinder Singh, a resident of Talwara village.
“Some link roads have been constructed while others could not be built due to shortage of funds. The construction work on the remaining link roads will begin shortly,” said Jasmit Singh Brar, Jagraon Market Committee secretary.
