Ludhiana, February 4
As per new directions issued by the Rural Development and Panchayat Department, rural area certificates would now be issued by the Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) instead of concerned SDM/Tehsildar.
The BDPOs have been nominated as designated officers while the District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) would be the first appellate authority and Deputy Commissioner would be the second appellate authority.
Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said applicants would now get their application and proforma attested from sarpanch and panchayat secretary. The applicants also have to attach other necessary documents, including a self-declaration form, two passport size photographs, Rs 60 as fee, copy of Aadhaar card, residence proof of last five years (either voter card/driving licence/passport/electricity bill/water bill/telephone bill) with their application.
If the applicant is a minor, then the application form requires signatures of his or her parents or of legal guardian.
Agrawal said as per the directions of the Punjab Government, it would be compulsory for the DDPO to issue the rural area certificate within 15 working days from the date of applying.
