Samiksha, Arjun shoot gold at Asian Air Gun C’ship

Samiksha Dhingra and Arjun Singh Cheema of Om Parkash Bansal Modern School, Mandi Gobindgarh, have brought fame to the country by winning top honours in an international rifle shooting championship held at Japan recently.

Samiksha, a Class XII student, won the gold medal in the 10-metre air rifle event (junior women’s category) during the 10th Asian Air Gun Championship held from December 7 to 11 at Wako, Saitama, Japan. She quelled a strong resistence from her opponent Yu Zhang from China. She accumulated 249.6 points to bag the top position, while the Chinese competitor followed closely with 249.5 points to content with the silver medal. Martina Lindsay Veloso of Singapore won the bronze medal with 227.2 points.

Samiksha also figured in the Indian trio which fetched the bronze medal in the team event. She teamed up with Shreya and Mani Kaushik to steer her team to third position.

Arjun Singh Cheema of Class XI also brought fame to the school. He, along with Surinder Singh and Saurabh Chaudhary, clinched the gold medal in the 10-meter air pistol team event with a 11-point margin over Korea.
