Students, who have scored top positions in the PSEB Class XII exam, say they did not take tuition and were able to achieve top ranks through self-study.
“I never took any tuition. If there was any doubt about any subject, I would simply ask my subject teachers in the school,” said the state topper Darshveer Kaur Kalsi. “It was because of self-study that I have been able to secure good marks,” she said. “I used to revise everything taught in the class. I used to study till 10 o’ clock in the evening,” she said.
Kajal Tandon, who has secured the third rank, says self-study is very important. One should avoid tuition, she said. “There is no need for extra coaching if you study well in school,” she said. She rather emphasised systematic study and time management.
“Tuitions take both time and money,” said another student. “Moreover, covering the syllabi in school and again at tuition classes only leads to wastage of time. Commuting from one tuition centre to other also wastes time. Tuitions mean cutting down on self-study time,” she said. “Rather than spending time on tuitions, one should devote more time on studies and extra-curricular activities that help develop personality,” she said.
Sarika Vinayak, who has secured the second rank, said she was expecting a good result. It was because of her consistent self-study that she has secured good marks, she said.
Regularity and discipline is important when it comes to self-study. If you are able to achieve that you can always do well in exams, said another student.
Amanjot Kaur, who has secured the fourth position, said she never took coaching for any subject. Self-study is the best way to prepare for exams, she said. “One should make notes and consult others for any doubts,” she said.
