Schools celebrate World Athletics Day

Different schools of the city celebrated World Athletics Day by organising an array of athletic events on Tuesday.
Green Land Convent, New Subhash Nagar
World Athletic Day was organised at Green Land Convent School, New Subhash Nagar. An inter-class Athletic sports meet was held for students of Class VI to VIII. The aim was to provide an opportunity to students to ‘unite’, ‘rejoice’, ‘introduce’ and ‘represent’ themselves. Around 300 students took part in the event.
BVM School, Chandigarh Road
World Athletics Day was celebrated at BVM School, Chandigarh Road. A documentary of prominent athletes, Milkha Singh, The Flying Sikh; PT Usha, the queen of Indian track; and Hima Das, an Indian sprint runner, was screened for the students. Shiromani, Shruti and Loveleen aquainted all with the importance of the day. Young athletes of the primary wing showcased their talent by participating in various events such as relay race and one-legged race.
BVM, Kitchlu Nagar
World Athletics Day was observed at BVM, Kitchlu Nagar, to popularise sports and promote athletics. Various events such as100m, 200m and 400m race, long jump and relay race were organised. The day began with a synchronised march past, followed by athletic events. The athletes mesmerised the audience with their energetic performances. The event ended with the felicitation of the winners.
BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point
Class IV students of BCM Senior World Athletics Day was celebrated at BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point. Students of Class IV took part. Mehak, a student of Class IV-S, delivered a speech on the importance of athletics. PT exercises and races were held. Principal Neeru Kaura gave away the prizes to the winners.
