Ludhiana, August 17

As many as seven cases under Section 346 (wrongful confinement in secret) of the IPC were registered by the city police in a day.

Most of the victims involved are minors and the police have already launched a manhunt in all cases to trace them.

In the first case, a 19-year-old boy went missing under mysterious conditions. Madan Gopal of Iqbal Ganj told the police that on August 10, his son Uddit Kumar went to the market with his mother, from where he went missing. He said he suspects that he could have been kept under wrongful confinement by some unknown person.

In a similar case, Kamaljit (30), a resident of Damoria Bridge, went missing on July 31 and is still untraceable. He had gone to the hosiery, where he used to work, but did not return home.

In yet another case, Lakhupal (27) went missing from his house on Ferozepur Road on August 7, but did not return. Complainant Ram Saroop said his brother-in-law could have been confined at some isolated place. In yet another case, a man identified as Harminder Singh (37), a resident of Harnam Nagar left home on August 11 telling his wife Navneet Kaur that he was going to meet some friend, but has not returned so far.

In another case, Ravi Kumar (15), a resident of Meharban, had gone to attend a marriage, but went missing. His father Vinod Kumar suspects that he could have been kept under illegal confinement.

Another minor Poonam Kumari (14) of Kirti Nagar went missing on August 14. In yet another case, two friends — Prince (7) and Sarwan (14) — went to play in the ground near their house on Hambran Road, but are missing.
