Sexual harassment: Hotel owner booked
Ludhiana: The division no. 5 police have booked a hotel owner on the charge of sexually harassing a hotel employee. The accused has been identified as Bhupinder Singh, owner of Kailash Regency, near the bus stand. A 19-year-old complainant told the police that on May 13, when she was about to leave the hotel after completing her duty, the owner did not let her go and took her to Lodhi Club, where he consumed liquor. While going back to the hotel in his car, he tried to harass her sexually. Later, he dropped her outside the hotel and left. The accused is yet to be arrested. TNS
10-yr jail in narcotics case
Additional Sessions Judge Kuldeep Kumar Kareer has convicted Ajay Kumar of Jawahar Nagar camp in a narcotics case. He was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on him. He was booked by the Division no. 5 police on November 11, 2016. The police arrested him near Shiv Mandir, Jawahar Nagar camp, during a naka with 100-gm intoxicating powder. The accused pleaded innocence and claimed false implication, but failed to prove his assertions. OC
Hit and run: Man killed
The Sarabha Nagar police have booked a man for crushing a man to death in a hit and run case. Ram Milan of Jhande village told the police that on May 13, his father-in-law Durgra Parshad, 52, was walking on the road, when a rashly-driven Innova vehicle hit him. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Further probe was on to identify the errant driver.
Rape attempt: Two booked
The Sarabha Nagar police have booked two persons on the charge of attempting to rape two minor girls (6 and 3-year-old). The accused have been identified as Krishna and Prem Bahadur, resident of Sunet village. The complainant told the police that on May 14 at 9.30 pm, her daughters were playing outside the room and the accused took them to their room and attempted to rape them. The police said raids were on to nab the accused.
Peddler held with opium
The CIA wing of the city police have nabbed a peddler and recovered 500-gram opium from him. The accused has been identified as Veerpal Singh of Fatehgarh Sahib. The police said during a routine checking in Jamalpur, the accused was stopped for checking and the search of his belongings led to the recovery of narcotics. Further probe was on.
2 held with 11.5- kg heroin
The STF Ludhiana unit claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 11.5-kg heroin from them along with a mobile SIM of Pakistan. The accused have been identified as Jarnail Singh of Ferozepur and Sukhwinder Singh of Tarn Taran. STF Ludhiana in-charge Harbans Singh, in a statement issued here on Wednesday, said the accused were nabbed from Ferozepur and initially 1-kg heroin was recovered from them. Later, on their disclosure, 10.5-kg heroin was recovered from agricultural fields near the international border. The BSF party was also taken to the location. Singh said both peddlers had a notorious past as they were already facing drug cases against them. He said the accused could be in touch with a smuggler from Pakistan as a SIM card was also recovered from them.
Woman held with drugs
The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the city police have arrested a woman and recovered 80-gram heroin from her. The accused has been identified as Manjit Kaur of Talwandi Kalan. The police said acting on a tip-off, a naka was laid at Ladhowal toll plaza, where a woman was stopped for checking. During a search, narcotics was recovered from her. TNS
