Ludhiana: Students of Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Pakhowal Road, made their school proud by bagging second position in an inter-school shabad-gayan competition held to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. As many as 29 schools from various regions of Ludhiana participated in the competition.

DAV sportspersons bring laurels

Students of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, did their alma mater proud by winning multiple prizes at cluster-level competitions in team and individual events. The school teams in badminton (boys), taekwondo (boys), table tennis (girls) and handball (girls) bagged first position; in chess (boys), handball (boys), taekwondo (girls), kho-kho (girls), bolleyball (girls), judo (girls) and cricket (girls), the school bagged second position. Sargunjot Singh won three gold medals while Puneet Sophat, Dhwani and Palak Thakur bagged silver each in swimming and karate. The sportspersons have proven their mettle and secured a place for themselves in the inter-cluster tournaments to begin in November.

Celebrating humanity

To celebrate humanity, students of BVM, Kitchlu Nagar, paid a visit to Manukhta Di Seva, a society serving and treating the ill, helpless, homeless and poor. Students distributed sweets to them and spent the day with them to help them clean and dust.

GNPS excels in martial arts

Guru Nanak Public School, Model Town extension excelled in the 65th state-level sqay martial arts tournament and 31st state-level roller skating championship. Students bagged five gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal in martial arts, with the entire team being selected for has qualified for the nationals. The school also bagged the state-level trophy. Shambu Sagarwas, the school coach, was declared the best coach of sqay martial arts at state level. Jiwanjot Kaur of Class III bagged three gold medals and one bronze at the roller skating championship. Principal Mona Singh lauded the efforts of the achievers.

Annual sports day held

Om Parkash Bansal Modern School, Mandi Gobindgarh, celebrated its 18th annual sports day with great zeal and enthusiasm. The chief guest for the event was Prashant Kumar Goyal, Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib. The event commenced with a march past by school houses, followed by flag hoisting and oath-taking ceremony. Tiny tots mesmerised everyone with their power-packed display of PT exercises, pom-pom dance and fan drills. Senior students performed martial arts, gymnastics, yoga and aerobics. The highlights of the day were the track-and-field events, in which athletes displayed their skills. A relay race and tug of war were also organised. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony. Winners were rewarded with medals. Hukam Chand Bansal, chairman of the school, lauded the efforts put in by the students, teachers and the sports mentors. He laid emphasis on the importance of sports and its role in a person’s well- being and good health.

UN Day celebrations

Students of Class VII, VIII and IX of Green Grove celebrated United Nations Day by presentimg a PowerPoint presentation on the structure, organisations and functions of the United Nations Organisations. Principal Suzy George appreciated the efforts of students.

Kindergarten fancy dress contest 

Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sahnewal, organised a fancy dress competition for the kindergarten wing on the theme of vegetables for nursery, electronic gadgets for LKG and advertisements for UKG. Children were dressed as tomatoes, cauliflowers, peas, brinjals, mobiles, ATM, washing machine, Colgate, juices and maggi. Principal Sister Crispin Maria lauded the efforts of students. TNS
