Shubham Shukla triumphs in chess tournament

Ludhiana, March 25

City-based Shubham Shukla scored 8 points to romp home victorious in the Open Prize Money Chess Tournament, organised by the Ludhiana District Chess Association, at Jhanj Ghar near Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Model Town, here on Sunday.

Shubham pocketed Rs 11,000 cash prize, besides winners’ trophy. Sahil Dhawan from Haryana also scored eight points but had to content with the runner-up trophy. He got a cash prize of Rs 8,000, whereas Ashwani Kumar of Moga, with 7.5 points finished at the third place.

In the open category, competitors who secured the first twenty positions were given cash prizes while those who secured the first position in different age groups received cash prizes. Munish Thapar, General Secretary, Punjab State Chess Association, and Prof Bikramjit Sandhu distributed prizes among the position holders.
