Sisodia to campaign for AAP candidate
Ludhiana: Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia is likely to visit Ludhiana on May 17. He may carry out a roadshow in various parts of Ludhiana parliamentary constituency, from where AAP has fielded Dr Tejpal Singh Gill. An AAP volunteer said they were making arrangements for a roadshow in the city on May 17. AAP Punjab general secretary Ahbaab Singh Grewal confirmed Sisodia’s visit. He said the roadshow route would be confirmed at the earliest. In 2014, advocate HS Phoolka had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election as AAP candidate from Ludhiana. In a four-cornered contest, AAP’s Phoolka stood second by polling 2,80,750 votes. TNS
Bains gets another ‘threat’
Ludhiana: Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) councillors alleged that the drugs mafia has issued a threat to party chief MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains and his family for raising voice against drugs. A group of party leaders and councillors submitted a complaint to the Police Commissioner in this regard. Bains is contesting as LIP candidate from Ludhiana parliamentary seat. Councillor Harvinder Singh Kaler said the drug mafia had sent a threat letter to Bains’ residence on Monday. The mafia has threatened to kill Bains and his family for raising voice against drugs, he said. “The mafia has asked Bains to stop his fight against drugs otherwise he will have to face serious consequences. We asked the police to increase the security of Bains and his family,” he said. Earlier, MLA Balwinder Singh Bains had complained to the police that gangsters issued a threat via Facebook messenger to kill MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains. TNS
Lawyers extend support to Bittu
Ludhiana: District Bar Association (DBA) president Ashok Mittal extended support to Bittu at a function held at the local courts. The association apprised Bittu about various shortcomings they were facing in the court complex, for which he promised that he would allot money ( Rs 50 lakh for DBA and Rs 10 lakh for District Revenue Bar) from his MPLAD funds, if he wins again. He appealed to lawyers to extend support to him. OC
BJP supporters miffed
Ludhiana: District BJP supporters on Monday condemned the local administration for not allowing the rally of PM Narendra Modi at the Government College for Women playground. In a statement, district BJP president Jatinder Mittal said the administration, under pressure, from the Congress government had not granted permission to hold the rally. He said the Congress leadership was feeling frustrated and demoralised about the popularity of the PM, which is why they did not allow his rally to be organised within the city. In any case, he said, the rally would be held opposite Vardhaman Mills on Chandigarh Road on May 17 at a grand scale. TNS
