Young boys and girls proved their mettle in numerous sports activities held under “Tandarust Punjab” mission across the state.

Ravinder Singh, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, said players took part in different activities conducted by the Punjab Sports Department at the Guru Nanak Stadium as well as at the PAU Velodrome in addition to sub centers, including Khanna, Raikot, Gurusar Sudhar etc.

Judo competition was held at the multipurpose indoor hall opposite the Guru Nanak Stadium in which boys and girls (U-14) slugged it out.

In the girls’ section (below 25-kg category), Namrata Thapar came out triumphant while Gurleen Kaur and Bani secured second and third position, respectively.

In (below 30-kg), Simran romped home victorious, followed by Isha at second place and Manisha at third spot whereas in (below 35-kg), Ishika proved too good for her opponents to clinch top honours. Radhika stood second and Diksha finished at third place.

Sarvanshi emerged winner in (below 40-kg category) while Nandani and Himanshi finished as first and second runners-up, respectively.

In the boy’s section, Manvir, Paras and Govind secured first three positions in (below 30-kg) and in (below 35-kg category), Saurav bagged top position while Gautam and Saksham secured second and third rank, respectively.

In the below (40-kg group), Prince stamped his class to clinch top position. Rajeev finished at second spot while Maanav secured third rank.

Varun, Ritesh and Raman bagged first three positions in (below 45-kg category) while Nirbhay, Ashok and Basant finished at the victory stand in the plus 45-kg group.

Coaching sub centre at the GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, hosted a cross country race in which hosts finished ahead of others to emerge victorious. Kendriya Vidyalya, Halwara, finished as first runner-up and Sudhar village secured third position.

In cycling at the Punjab Agricultural University velodrome, Sahil emerged winner in 500-meter time trial event in the boys’ section. Harshit Verma and Sachin Kumar followed him at the second and third position, respectively.

Likewise, in the keirin race, Manoj stamped his superiority to romp home victor while Harshit Sharma secured second position and Sahil finished third.

In athletics, 200-meter race for boys (U-18) at the Guru Nanak Stadium, Ankush Tiwari of Shanti Devi Senior Secondary School emerged winner. Ajay Kumar of SDP Senior Secondary School and Aryan Saini of GMT School stood second and third, respectively.

The Naresh Chander Stadium at Khanna was the venue for volleyball competition for boys (U-19) in which Coaching Centre, Khanna, came out victorious. Senior Secondary School, Khanna, finished at second place while Khanna Public School secured third position.
