Despite the fact that the nuisance created by stray animals on the humming Sahnewal Chowk has been highlighted again and again through the columns of Ludhiana Tribune, the Municipal Council seems to be least bothered.

Residents rue that the Municipal Council has done little to ease their problem which has till date injured a number of two-wheeler riders and damaged a number of vehicles. The nuisance created by these animals has crossed all limits since they seem to have made Sahnewal Chowk their permanent abode and move to any and every side at their own free will, thus catching the commuters unawares, and in a number of cases, giving irreparable harm to them.

Sahnewal Chowk is the spot which is overcrowded at all times of the day with all sorts of vehicles coming from every direction. The stray animals have just multiplied the already existing congestion around the place. The commuters have to risk their lives as the stray animals jump in any moment and turn the things upside down. The council has been informed several times by the residents, but the former could not find a solution to this grave problem which may prove to be hazardous at any moment.

“The sudden dropping in of stray animals poses a real risk to the commuters. The authorities have always showed little concern as far as finding a permanent solution to this problem is concerned,” said Harbans Singh Sains, a resident of the town.

“The very spot gives an ignoble look. Apart from the traffic hazards which the presence of stray animals pose, their all-time presence just makes you feel miserable. The filth accumulated due to their presence makes the resident feel all the more miserable,” shared Manjinder Singh Bhola.

“The other day, as I was about to cross the chowk, a buffalo suddenly appeared in front of my scooter. I applied sudden brakes, but, my scooter went out of control. I became unconscious and as I regained consciousness, I found myself in the hospital. The harrowing scene is still like a nightmare for me,” shared a resident of Sahnewal.

Executive Officer of Sahnewal Vikram Kumar couldn’t be contacted despite repeated attempts.
