India is a land of diversity and rich colourful culture, which is a testimony of various kinds of people who live here. Sardar Patel, the Iron Man of India, was instrumental in bringing India together despite all differences. His 144th birth anniversary was celebrated with great pomp and show at schools across the city today.
Green Land Sen Sec, Jalandhar bypass
National Unity Day was observed with great zest and zeal to commemorate the birth anniversary of the chief architect of modern India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. A special assembly was organised for students of Class VI to VIII. Students spoke on the life of Vallabhbhai Patel, followed by speeches by teachers on true qualities of the great personality. Essay and slogan-writing competition competitions were also organised for students of Class X on “Integrity-A way of life” and Rashtria Ekta Diwas, respectively.
Green Land Convent, New Subhash Nagar
The 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was celebrated enthusiastically by students and faculty as National Unity Day. The celebrations aimed at paying tributes to the ‘Iron man’ for his great efforts to unite India. A special morning assembly was organised, in which students recited songs in his commemoration. Stusdents expressed their views on “Contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for unity, safety and security of India”. Principal Jyoti Sachdev Pujara paid a floral tribute to the architect of India’s unity.
BVM, Kitchlu Nagar
The school observed ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ as a step towards maintaining and strengthening integrity. A run for unity, prabhat pheri, and march past by the NCC cadets was taken out to ignite the spirit of unification. Students and staff pledged to dedicate themselves to preserve the unity, integrity and security of countrymen. Encouraging the practice of expressing unique and real ideas, an essay-writing competition on ‘National integration and SardarVallabh Bhai Patel’ was also organised. Principal Neelam Mittar motivated students to fight against anti-social elements of the country.
GMT Public Schol
A “run for unity” activity for students of Classes XI and XII was organised with the aim to instil the values of national integrity, strength and resilience. A rally by students and teachers was taken out to spread the message of unity, peace and harmony to strengthen the nation. Students also took a pledge to save the nation with full dedication.

The 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. A floral tribute was paid by principal Manjit Kaur. A special assembly was also conducted on the occasion. A speech was delivered by Komalpreet Kaur of Class X highlighting the life and contribution of Sardar Patel in the freedom movement and uniting India. Students took a pledge to keep their country united by respecting all religions and castes.

Green Land Convent School, Chandigarh Road, celebrated the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. Students paid a floral tribute to the country’s first Home Minister. The day was celebrated with the message of cleanliness, unity, integrity and security of the country. Students of Classes XI and XII conducted a rally to spread the message of unity, patriotism and nationalism.

The school was abuzz with various activities. While the students of senior wing took an oath to preserve the unity and integrity of the nation, students of the middle wing presented various speeches and poems on ‘Loh Purush’ Sardar Patel. Students of primary wing participated in various hands-on activities such as painting, card-making, skits, group song and dance on the theme of national integration. They were also appraised of the contribution of Sardar Patel in unifying India. Shabad Rudhra, president, chain of Green Land schools, advised students to promote the feeling of national integration and patriotism.
Ryan International, Dugri
The day started with an oath-taking ceremony by students in the morning assembly. Students pledged to dedicate themselves to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation through the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge. Students of Class I and II were shown a Power Point presentation on the journey of Sardar Patel while students of Classes III to V spoke on the Iron Man of India. Students of Class VI to X shared their views on the importance of the day.
BVM, Udham Singh Nagar
To acknowledge the relentless efforts and contribution of Sardar Patel, the coming week will be dedicated to the celebrations. Various creative activities such as slogan writing and poster making, depicting the theme of secularism and national unity, will be conducted. Essay writing competition and group discussions will also be a part of the celebrations to enhance writing and oratory skills of students.
Police DAV Public School
A special assembly was organised for students of Classes IX and X, in which they shared the role of the Iron Man of the country in uniting various provinces of India under one flag. A nukkad natak was staged by students of Class X to spread the message of brotherhood. Students took an integrity pledge. “A run for unity” was organised for students of Class XI and XII. The aim of organising these activities was to promote a sense of “One India, One Nation”. Principal Anu Verma said such activities played an important role in sensitising students to the discrimination prevailing in society and would help to create a better India for tomorrow.
BCM College
A pledge to mark the National Unity Day was sworn in by students and faculty members with the aim to foster, reinforce, preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation. In order to pay homage to the great patriot and to acquaint the young pupil teachers with his ideology and teachings, a debate competition on ‘Is ideology of SardarVallabhbhai Patel relevant in the present era?’ was organised.
Science College, Jagraon
The college director, Prof Gurcharan Singh, enlightened students on the life and teachings of the great personality. He administered the oath of unity to students, who vowed that they would dedicate themselves to maintain unity, integrity and security of the nation.
