Ludhiana, March 14
The Punjab State Education Board (PSEB) Chemistry exam, which was scheduled on Monday, has left students at sea, with many students complaining that the question paper was equal to the Joint Entrance Exam (national level engineering exam) level.
Jaspreet Kaur, a science student said, “The question paper was very difficult to attempt. Some important questions which we prepared for the exam were not asked and some were out of the syllabus as well. I would request the board authorities to either give grace marks or conduct the exam again.”
Another student Anudeep said, “Despite studying hard, I could not attempt the exam in full spirits. I tried my best to solve the paper but failed to do so. I may be able to pass the exam.” Parminder, a chemistry teacher said, “This is certainly playing with student’s career. Many students broke down in front of me after coming out of their exam hall. The questions were of JEE level. Even a teacher would consume time while attempting such paper. No grace marks will compensate the drop in results. The paper should be conducted again.”
Balwinder Kaur, District Science Supervisor said, “The difficulty level of the exam was extremely tough. It was an uncommon paper considering the pattern of last 10 years question papers. I would strongly recommend that marking should be done after reviewing the paper.”
District Science Supervisor’s analysis
An analysis highlighting the discrepancies in chemistry exam was sent to the PSEB on Tuesday. As per the analysis authenticated by the District Science Supervisor:
- The paper was ‘uncommon’ or different from previous year board papers and sample paper on the board website
- Questions which are generally repeated every year and which an average student assumes to attempt were not there
- The number of straightforward questions was less and unpredictable questions more
- A non-scoring question paper
- Some questions were out of syllabus
- Organic chemistry was extremely tough
- No chemical reactions were asked
