Taking a lead in road safety management the Ludhiana (Rural) Police has launched a unique Children Challan Book movement in association with an NGO- the Patiala Foundation.
The inaugural function of the event was held at Sacred Heart Convent School at Raikot and Senior Superintendent of Police Ludhiana (Rural) Varinder Singh Brar was the chief guest.
Chief coordinator of the Patiala Foundation Ravi S Ahluwalia, Raikot Deputy Superintendent of Police Gurmit Singh Tejey and SHO GS Sikand chaired various sessions of the event.
Addressing the gathering of students, their parents and teachers, speakers including SSP Varinder Singh Brar, Principal S Anjana, DSP Gurmit Singh Tejey and chief coordinator Ravi S Ahluwalia regretted that traditional mode of checking traffic rule violations had failed to yield desired results despite best efforts by concerned officials. “People too have failed to comprehend importance of obeying road safety rules despite the fact that road accidents were the largest single factor behind maximum number of unnatural deaths in the nation,” regretted Brar maintaining that the novel children challan book movement would bring behavioral change in attitude of those coming in contact with designated students of the school.
Elaborating on the subject DSP Tejey and SHO Sikand said designated students had been provided Children Challan Books which would be used to caution their parents, friends , relatives and drivers of school buses in due course of time.
“Students have been given tips on various types of traffic violations. They will issue challans to their known people in case of violation and counterfoils will be deposited at the school office,” said Sikand, adding that outstanding performers would be felicitated.
