Studies at Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women and DD Jain College of Education, were disrupted as incessant rains wreaked havoc on the campuses. The damage done to the institutions can still be witnessed in their basements.

Even after more than 20 days of rains, the hardships of the students of DD Jain continue. More than four feet of water had accumulated all around its campus. Every vehicle parked in the outside parking area almost submerged. The situation worsened in the basement area. Due to water entering through window panes and slits, the basement has flooded. This accumulated water has damaged almost all documents and equipment of resource centres, offices and labs of both the colleges.

The colleges have suffered irreparable losses of records, including rare national and international books, journals, examination record, answer booklets, specimens, precious technological gadgets and equipment besides furniture.

With all these hardships, the colleges have resumed due to the untiring efforts of the president of the college, Nand Kumar, and other members of the managing committee, who provided all types of resources round the clock to resume smooth functioning of the institutions. —TNS
