The White Yorkshire swine breed of Sukhwinder Singh Grewal of village Kotli has won the ‘best swine award’ at the district level contest during the two-day animal fair organised at Baddowal recently.
Sukhwinder’s swine was of 6 feet 10 inches in length, the longest among the competitors. It was also adjudged on the basis of its ears, mouth and height.
Earlier too, Grewal has won prizes for best swine at the state-level contests in such fairs organised at Muktsar in the year 20008, 2009 and 2010.
He was especially awarded by MP Ravneet Bittu during this fair who appreciated Grewal for his single handed endeavour of starting the piggery business on such a grand scale where even international teams visit and find much to learn.
Bitu proudly asserted that Sukhwinder was from his village and that it is matter of honour to have such a pushing farmer in the village who had trained many youths into self-employment and saved them from getting into drugs and bad company.
Sukhwinder runs an Indo-Canadian Swine Breeders farm at village Kotli and has deployed many unemployed youth along with him in his business.
He shared that his swine would now compete with the pigs at the state-level programme to be held at Patiala from December 1 to 5.
He shared that his effort has always been to perform something different and his love for rearing swines had always fascinated him. He has been into this business and found it to be very lucrative.
“If one dreams of accomplishing something unique and excelling in it, one can easily achieve that target with effort and consistency,” he said. “I am hopeful that my swine shall win the state level competition as well,” he added.
