Teacher dies as truck hits scooter

Ludhiana, July 17
A teacher lost her life after a speeding truck hit the Activa scooter she was riding at Southern Bypass, near BRS Nagar, Ludhiana today.
The deceased has been identified as Amritpal Kaur (34), a resident of Vishal Nagar on Pakhowal Road. Another woman who was pillion rider received multiple injuries in the accident.
ASI Amarinder Singh informed that Amritpal Kaur, along with another teacher, were returning from school when the accident took place. The police have arrested the truck driver and registered a case against him, he added. The deceased was a teacher at a primary school of Barewal. She was married.
The police will hand over the body to the kin after autopsy at the Ludhiana Civil Hospital tomorrow.
Three more die in mishaps
In first incident, a woman lost her life when a speeding Mahindra pickup hit her near Saiyan Kalan village on Tuesday. She, along with another woman, were crossing the road when the mishap took place. ASI Baljit Singh said the deceased had been identified as Kartar Kaur (65). A case has been registered against an unidentified driver at the Dehlon police station.
In another incident, a 31-year-old man succumbed to injuries on Monday night. He was admitted at Fortis Hospital after his bike was allegedly hit by a speeding car at Ramgarh Chowk on Chandigarh Road. The deceased was identified as Mahesh Kumar. He had received serious injuries in the road mishap. The Focal Point police had registered a case against unidentified driver of the car.
A man lost his life when a speeding truck hit him at Southern Bypasss on Monday. The deceased was identified as Shiv Shankar (26). In his statement, Mahesh of Shepur stated that his brother Shiv was travelling towards Gill Road from Ferozepur Road when his vehicle developed a snag. Shiv was indicating the vehicle for diversion when a speeding truck hit his brother, he alleged. The Sarabha Nagar police had registered a case against the unidentified driver.
