Teachers of various government schools today protested the Booth Level Officers (BLO) duties assigned. The Education Secretary, Krishan Kumar, had written to the Deputy Commissioners’ office for letting teachers to be exempted from the duties of BLOs as it would adversely affect the studies of students. Despite that, teachers were assigned BLO duties.
Teachers raised slogans against the administration and said they were being over-burdened with the duties of BLOs. “We have been asked to do these duties after school hours. This is sheer injustice. From October 1, the school timings will be changed. The school hours will be from 9 am to 3:30 pm, which means that teachers have to report to the field around 4 to 4:30 pm. We can go home only after completing these duties. We have also been asked to do BLO duties on Sunday as well. Does the government want us to snap ties with our families?” said Ramanjit Singh, a teacher.
Instead of the teaching staff, the non-teaching staff should be given these duties. “There must be nearly 2,500 teachers who have been assigned the duties of BLO. The process will go on for a month and studies will suffer in school. Despite the letter submitted by the education secretary to the DCs, we have been assigned these duties,” said Ajitpal Singh, teacher at local government school.
Teachers have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard.
