Meet Ajaib Singh, a 28-year-old Punjab Police Constable, presently working as a Crime & Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) operator at Koom Kalan police station, who is a sensation on the social media for his benevolent acts.

He has formed a group of around 250 cops, who have been distributing free ration to the poor in Ludhiana. Apart from distributing free eatables to the deprived, including looking after deserted parents, he has also been distributing free books and stationery to the needy children.

While sharing his views, constable Singh said it just occurred to him on Diwali that he should distribute sweets to the poor and when he went to the home of an elderly woman, he was shocked to see her plight. She was living in abject poverty and the condition of her house was pathetic due to leaking roof.

“I spent my salary and got the entire house repaired. I also organised a ‘paath’ in her house. The blessings of that elderly woman infused more confidence in me and since then, I have been serving the poor,” Ajaib said.

“My dream to serve the poor got materialised when other cops and police officers started contributing. As of now, around 250 cops are paying Rs1,000 per month from their salary, which we are using to distribute ration, books and stationery for the poor,” Ajaib said.

“Whatever I am today is because of the members of my family, who have played a major role in my life. My grandfather is an ex-serviceman, my brother and sister-in-law are also serving in the Indian Army and my father is a gurdwara granthi (priest). Everyone inspired me to do something for society,” the constable said. While praising Police Commissioner Sukhchian Singh Gill, he said the CP was also supporting him in his cause along with ADCP Deepak Pareek and Koom Kalan police personnel.
