Three city students excel in NEET

The results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET0 were declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday. Two students, from the city have brought laurels by securing all India ranks in the exam.

Mayank Anand and Arshneet Kaur Sethi have secured an AIR 423 and 431, respectively, by scoring 663 marks each (in case of same marks, there are different parameters to decide on ranking such as who scored maximum in biology etc). Both the students have studied from Edusquare, Dugri. Mayank Anand is from DAV School, Pakhowal Road, while Arshneet Kaur Sethi was a student of Sacred Heart School, Sarabha Nagar. Bhuvan, another aspirant, studied from Akash Institute here and has secured AIR 565.

Mayank wants to be either an oncologist or a cardiologist. He said he would decide about the institute after his counselling sessions. Mayank used to dedicate five to seven hours for the preparation of NEET exam. Mayank’s father is a professor in Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, while his mother is Municipal Town Planner.

Arshneet said she wanted to be a surgeon and wished to study in AIIMS Delhi. Both her parents are doctors at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. She would be the fourth generation of doctors in her family, she added.

The NEET-UG was conducted by the NTA for the first time. Till last year, it was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. The exam was conducted on May 5. More than 15 lakh students got enrolled for the NEET-UG this year, out of which, 14.14 lakh students attempted the paper. A total of 7.97 lakh students have cleared the cut-offs and have qualified for the mains. In comparison to 2018, city toppers had secured 622 marks out of 720, and had got AIR 604.

Around 1,000 students appeared for the exam from Ludhiana. The national and state counselling for admissions to MBBS and BDS seats are expected to start by the end of June or early July. Rules for the same will be disclosed in the coming days.

14.14 lakh students appeared for exam

  • NEET-UG was conducted by National Testing Agency for the first time
