Phillaur, September 1
Travelling from Phillaur to Ludhiana in your own car will take a toll on your pocket as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the toll rates. The increase in the toll rates has come into force at the Ladhowal toll plaza from September 1.
The toll plaza is situated alongside the Sutlej at Ladhowal between Phillaur and Ludhiana. Now, every car owner will have to shell out Rs 125 (single journey) and Rs 185 (multiple journey) to travel a distance of merely 12 km from Phillaur to Ludhiana. Light vehicle owners will pay Rs 215 (single Journey) and Rs 325 for multiple journey.
Buses and truck drivers will pay Rs 435 for single journey and Rs 650 for multiple journey. Officials of the SOMA company that collects toll at Ladhowal plaza said only necessary increase had been made, which was an annual exercise.
Meanwhile, a leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, MP Singh Goraya, has opposed the increase in the toll rates. He said the increase would badly affect short-distance travellers. He has urged the government to review its toll-revision policy in the interests of short-distance travellers.
