Ludhiana: The last date for filing quarterly return of Value Added Tax (VAT) is July 31. However, as traders are busy with the Goods and Service Tax (GST), they want it to be extended by 15 days. Lalit Kapoor, a city-based readymade garment seller said for the past one month, he was busy with getting GST registration number and forgot about the VAT return. “Today is Saturday and Monday is the last date for filing tax. I hope the department extends the date by two weeks,” he said. Vinay Kansal, a hosiery manufacture, echoing his views, said it just got out of his mind that he had to file the return. "My mind was focused in GST and amidst all this, VAT return got out of my mind. If the date is not extended then I will have to pay fine,” he said. Jatinder Khurana, a taxation lawyer, said, “It will be of great help if the department extends the date by 15 days. All clients coming are for GST registration and seems like everybody has forgotten VAT returns. I haven't received a single client for VAT registration for the past one week. The department should extend the date as people are busy with the GST registration,” he said. — TNS
