On the occasion of ‘Makar Sankranti’ today, people belonging to Kerala state gathered in large numbers and visited Ayappa Temple located at Jamalpur locality of the city.

Pradeep Nair and Pushpa Nair said celebration of ‘Makar Sakaranti’ was the most- awaited event for all Keralites living in the city. Many days before the festival, people make beautiful decorations and other items to be displayed in Ayappa Temple.

Another resident, Tangappan Pillai, further said the industrial city Ludhiana had become a home to many Keralities, who have been living for the past many years and the generation of their children, who are born here are very well-versed with culture of Punjab but at the same time, we as parents try our level best to teach them about basis of Kerala culture and tradition.

The Keralites living in various parts of the city have their own associations and the procession to ‘Ayappa Temple’ in Jamalpur was led by the ‘All Ayappa Samiti’ of Haibowal area. Overall, the ‘Makar Sakaranti’ festival was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm.
